Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend Eden Espinosa's final performance in Wicked. I saw Eden for the first time in July, and I was absolutely blown away. Yesterday surpassed that. It was just absolutely incredible. Defying Gravity was hands down the best Defying Gravity I have EVER heard from ANY Elphaba. It was amazing.
I have curtain call and stagedoor pictures, a full review (contains spoilers) and my stagedoor story up on my journal for those who are interested. :D

I saw "Wicked" in London on September 25th, and Idina Menzel...was INCREDIBLE!
It was a little odd for me to see it with an all-British cast, as I had previously seen the national US production twice, but it was still so much fun! Of course people were so excited to see Idina on stage as Elphaba once again- and she was greeted with extremely enthusiastic applause. Everyone loved her! Boq and Nessarose were both very good in this production, though underwritten.
Not too many complaints from me....
We got to see Idina! Amazing!

I saw Megan Hilty and Shoshana Bean as Glinda and Elphaba on tour in Seattle a couple of weeks ago and wasnt really impressed. I saw the tour twice in San Francisco and liked Eden/Kendra and Eden/Emily way more. I think I was just expecting too much from Megan and Sho OR they were having an off night. I don't know, what do you think?

Maria Eberline played Nessa and she was awesome.

That was my great review.

Hi I'm new. I've been a fan for some months now. Read the first book and have started on the Son of the Witch. I saw the musical last Weds and loved every minute of it! To celebrate it coming to London with Idina I've made 25 Wicked icons which are available in my journal. :)

Is anyone planning on going to Julia's last show? I would give anything to be able to see it. Alas. :( Is Kendra's last show on the same date?

I wish I could see Kendra's last show. She was just... amazing, and hopefully on her last show she might get the freaky screaming applause I think she deserves when she enters. (I saw the tour 4 times in Detroit, and the only time anyone other than me cheered/clapped at her entrance was on opening night. At least I was close enough so ... maybe she heard... and was like... 'Wow that person is sad. lol.')

so, i got back from new york on thursday! the trip was so amazing (i've never been there before). --details later =)--

-my wicked review-

we get to gershwin about an hour before the matinee performance starts, and the first place we go is the ozdust boutique on the main level. i looked around at the people there and designs on the walls, and i came across the board that says who was filling in for whomever...and then i saw that saycon was filling in for eden. i was really upset about that. i was dying to see eden because i heard that she was amazing. i tried to keep it positive, and i hoped that maybe she too would be amazing. (boy, was i wrong). tiffany haas filled in for the midwife, and kathy santen would be filling in for morrible.

the show...

NOMOT: Beautiful opener. Kate had a nice soprano, but seemed kinda quiet about it. she had the potential of blowing everyone away, but she seemed like she was holding back. Nothing really special happened in the song...one thing i was upset about was no one clapped for kate when she came out but me. i felt like a dork, but whatever =)
DOS: huge applause for saycon when she entered. i noticed that kate help out her 'ooh's' for a long time. i liked it...it added to the song.
TWAI: if only morrible sang... saycon slengbloh...more like sleng-barf. i usually love this song, but it really didn't do much for me. kristy cates (in chicago) blew me away when i saw her back in april.
WITF: Kate was a hilarious glinda. so cute. i loved the part on 'every little trait however small' when she pulled out her makeup and put it on...then saycon mocked it. that was cute.
SB: dramatic. i love it when it is completly silent after we see the 'animals should be seen and not heard'
DTL: derrick was so much better than i expected. if chocolate could sing, it would sound like derrick. i also love the dialouge between kate and robb. too sweet.
P: kate nailed galinda. so funny.
INTG: boring... i love the song itself, but when you have a singer like miss sleng-barf...uggh.
OSD: It needed more energy.
SM: aww, david had a lisp. i thought it was cute =)
DG: okay, i have to admit that i can't listen to this song without crying. i did bawl this time (like in chicago)...but i wasnt until the last note. i cant evern listen to it on the cd...

ACT II

TG: nothing too special...i wish morrible sang insted of just talking through everything.
WWOTE: jenna blew me away. wow. it wasnt until this song until i realized how under-written boq and nessa are.
W: david has a rather different approch to the wizard...at least i think so...
IMTGR: go kate! i loved the last note...sooo pretty.
ALAYM: the chocolate voice is back =)...sleng-barf actually sounded good in this song. their voices blanded well. i didnt see much chemistry though...shame.
NGD: saycon...you need to be more evil in this song. she had the same arm ending as in TWAI...weird.
MOTWH: robb is a cute tinman. =) lol.
FG: no real connection between the two of them...it could've been amazing...
F: such a sad ending...but it works for the show. poor glinda.

all in all- i think chicago for me was more magical...i dont know why...
i think it would have been better if eden was elphie...but i couldnt really have done anything to change that. i mean, it was a matinee.

i did go to the stage door...but no one really came out. some of the chorus people did...but i didnt know who they were. robb sapp came out, but he practiclly ran down the street. he didnt stop to sign anything for anyone. oh well.

i also saw the drowsy chaperone and the wedding singer!!! i did do the stage door for the wedding singer, and came out with autographs from most of the leads!! (oh, we also sat in the front row!) if anyone wants to see pics or have a more detailed desription of nyc, wicked, or the other two shows, dont be afraid to ask!

Current Music: move that thang- the wedding singer

Sharon Osbourne to host charity Wicked gala

Producers of upcoming West End musical Wicked have announced a charity gala preview night hosted by Sharon Osbourne to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The evening takes place on September 19 at London’s Apollo Theatre, eight days before the award-winning Broadway show opens in the capital, and is followed by a VIP post-show supper with the cast.

Rehearsals began last week for the production, which stars Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and is directed by Joe Mantello.

Wicked is based on the book of the same name by Gregory Maguire and tells the story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz.

Can anyone tell me when the all of the current Broadway cast's contracts end? I have tickets for an October 25th show and I was hoping that Eden was going to be playing Elphaba but now I'm hearing that she ends on October 8th? And I was excited to be seeing Jenna Leigh Green play Nessa haha since hello, Sabrina the Teenage Witch was the last time I saw her do anything and I loved her.

I've done a rather lengthy review on the performance of the Wicked tour in San Diego if anybody would care to take a peek! Includes songs and thoughts, pictures and other random little tidbits for your enjoyment, so feel free to take a gander.

(And though you protest your disinterest, I know clandestinely...)

Also! Started a mini-comic, For Good, for Wicked if anybody would like to take a peek. I'll be updating it once a week and making icons and all that jazz so feel free to check back every so often whenver you so please :D

Story? Well, we all know the story. But basically we're going to forget the very end happened (and the whole bit with Dorothy as well) and throw all the characters together into my own happy little Oz world. And they're going to get along...for the most part. There will probably be spoilers and such so be warned if you don't know the whole story.

((Enjoy!))

On Wednesday I had the absolute pleasure of seeing the matinee of Wicked on Broadway. It was my second time seeing the show, the first was on a school field trip in March 2005, and this time I brought my parents to see what I've been talking about for the past year and a half. And I must say, it was just simply amazing. Eden Espinosa and Kate Reinders...there are not enough wonderful words. The whole performance was just incredible, and I love this show now more than ever, if possible! And ironically, I thought that seeing it again would "satisfy" my for a while at least, but now I just want to go again and again!
And I also got to go to the stage door for my first time, after the matinee we weren't too successful since only Derrick Williams came out, but we went back at night and I got to meet Eden and many of the other cast members, AND...-drumroll- MEGAN HILTY! Seriously! It was the most randomly awesome part of the night! The whole story is under the stage door cut. :D
Enjoy!

So, that's my story! I had an absolutely amazing day, again one of the best of my life just like the first time I saw the show.
Hope you enjoyed reading!

Hi everyone! Well, I'm very excited because on Wednesday I am seeing Wicked on Broadway for the second time! My first was way back in March 2005, and at that point I barely knew anything about the show. So this time will be different because I am a fangirl now. :) But anyways, I just had a couple questions.
I am planning on doing stagedoor after. Since it's the Wednesday matinee, I know people have said it's less likely that people come out...but is it still worth going? Have any of you had a positive stagedoor experience after a matinee? And on that same note, how exactly do you get to the stagedoor from inside the Gershwin? And, approximately how long after the show do the actors start coming out?
I think that's all my questions. :D Thanks! I'll be sure to post a review and (hopefully) stagedoor pics when I get back!
~Erin
EDIT: Never mind! By the time this was posted it was outdated. I will post again with my review of the show and experience!

Hello! My name is Peyton, and I'm new here. I am a total Wicked nerd, and I've been obsessed with it for about 2 years now. I saw Wicked in Chicago during spring break, and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. On August 2nd I will be seeing it again in New York. Seeing it in Chicago was so surreal, and I'm sure seeing it on Bway will be an absolutly 'wonderful' experiance.

Has anyone here seen the current cast? (Eden, Kate, David, Carol, etc.)
Another question-I've heard that most of the cast doesn't leave the theatre between shows (matinee and evening)...Is this true? (I'm seeing the matinee show) I really wanted to stand outside the stage door this time, so I was just wandering if it will be worth it. Thanks in advance! =)

My friend and I won the ticket lotto for closing night in Detroit. WOOHOO! We were front row! Awesome.

Here's some notable things:

*Boq lost his hat in Dancing Through Life... I asked the actor at the stage door about it, and he said it's usually stolen, and that he thinks Fiyero stole it tonight. I later reported this to Fiyero ( like a loyal fangirl) and he said, "What! I think tonight it fell off... grrrr..." Thinking back, it may have been the bigger ensemble girl, the one who has the antler-looking hat in the Emerald City.

*Kendra = BOUNCY BOUNCY. Amazing pixie stick Popular, as always. She/Julia cried at the end of For Good... :( She looked so heartbroken after finding Elphie's hat, hardly anyone laughed at "They seemed so happy with their brains and their hearts and everything..." (morrible)

*hahaha omg! During Thank Goodness, after the first ensemble part in front of the Oz Map scrim, it's supposed to go up to reveal Glinda/Morrible/Fiyero on the podium, but it got stuck and it kept going up a bit, then down. The ensemble was like "Errrrr.... *GRIN*" and some guy yelled out, "BOW!" so a couple of them bowed and we clapped.

*There is a very very very scary guy.. with BUGGING EYES at the end of No One Mourns the Wicked. He starts the first (at the end of the song) "wicked" with really dull "oh god why am I doing this?" eyes and by the last "wicked" his eyes are BULGING OUT. *tear*

*Haha! A girl during March of the Witch Hunters had the fake torch, and she kept burning people with it. (Putting it in their face or on their clothes.) (Come to think of it, it may have been Maria? Kind of looked like her to me.)

*Boq did fantabulous tonight. Best Wicked Witch of the East performance with him.. y'just want to smack Nessa and set him free.

In any case, I now resign my Fiyero!Fangirling and obsess over Kirk McDonald. I wish I could've seen him in the Scarlet Pimpernel!

lol... unless I catch a train to New York/Chicago, no posts from me for a while!

~Anna
